The Dama Iberica Sculpture from Valencia, Spain

Another favorite sculpture of mine is the Dama Ibérica, it is a giant modern sculpture found at the southern entrance to Valencia, Spain. It was made by a Spanish artist in 2007. The statue is more than 20 meters (about 65 feet) tall and was inspired by ancient Iberian statues such as the Dama de Elche. These early works of art were created thousands of years ago by the Iberian people, one of the first groups to live in Spain.

La Dama Iberica

Manolo Valdés is famous for taking images from art history and reimagining them in new ways. With the Dama Ibérica, he wanted to honor Valencia’s past while giving it a modern twist. Instead of carving stone like the ancient Iberians, Valdés used bright colors and simple, bold shapes to give the figure a powerful and modern look.

The sculpture stands along the Avenida de Ausiàs March, on the way into Valencia from the south. Drivers and visitors passing into the city see the huge figure, which almost feels like it is welcoming people into Valencia. Its size and design make it an important landmark for the city.

As you drive into Valencia you can’t miss the colossal work of art!

The Dama Ibérica is more than just a piece of art—it is also a reminder of Valencia’s history. By connecting today’s city with its Iberian roots, the sculpture celebrates local culture and makes sure that people remember where they came from, even as the city grows and changes.
